This route is a perfect blend, it combines pre-Inca and Inca history with the unparalleled experience of hiking through Andean grasslands, crossing a high mountain pass and descending through a breathtaking canyon to the beautiful village of Lamay.

Día 1: Cusco – Tauca – Huchuy Qosqo – Lamay – Aguas Calientes

Día 2: Machu Picchu – Retorno a Cusco

Is prior trekking experience necessary for this route?

You do not strictly need to be an expert mountaineer, but good physical condition and stamina are important. The first day involves an ascent to 4400 meters (14,400 feet) above sea level, so the route is classified as moderate. We recommend going for regular walks at home before your trip and acclimatising in Cusco for at least two days prior to the tour.

What should I do with my large luggage during these two days?

For the train journey to Aguas Calientes and for your own comfort during the hike, you are only permitted to bring a small daypack (maximum 5–6 kg). Your heavy luggage or large suitcases should be left in secure storage at your hotel in Cusco or Sacred Valley. Almost all the hotels offer this service free of charge!

Where will we spend the night?

After the first day's hike, you won't be sleeping in tents. We will spend the night at a comfortable, clean and safe hotel in the town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). This will allow you to take a hot shower, rest peacefully in a bed, and feel fully refreshed for your visit to the Machu Picchu the next day.
